"The Most Underrated Healthy Benefit of Walking"

"Optic Flow" is the wider vision response that allows our eyes to move laterally and use our peripheral to see objects as they pass by as we move forward.  This turns off the overworking Amygdala in the brain and increases PNS response, which immediately reduces stress and anxiety. Stimulating the PNS activates "The Rest and Digest System" that everyone is trying to tap into these days. This is also partly why active individuals or athletes recover better actively rather than passively in research as well. As many great coaches have voiced in the past, low intensity activity drives high intensity performances, and develops unique abilities that high intensity training simply cannot supply.

Walking is also very anti-inflammatory in nature and it's a fair longevity marker along with others that I'll reserve for a future blog post (I.e. step count, muscle mass levels /Sarcopenia, HRR, grip strength, Amrap pushups, etc.). Walking feeds steady rhythmic pulses and contractions which helps drain the lymph system carrying wastes to be removed and serving as a form of active recovery in the process.  Also it's the best form of NEAT for weight maintenance or loss purposes.  And it's even more powerful if you can walk out at a park or in nature of course.
