"Hit your weighted carries regularly"

It just occured to me at work how much I look forward to and absolutely enjoy carrying heavy things.  I think it's just primal and innate for men, not to mention a very formidable and powerful tool in your training toolbox.

This drill was pioneered by Dr. Joel Seedman years back. It's an absolute gem when it comes to building focus and mental toughness under duress, plus the myriad of physical benefits it brings to the table.

Farmer carries do too many things when it comes to athletic and physical development. For example, there is a vast neural network concentrated at the hands that extends up through the Central Nervous System, which can really kick your muscle recruitment throughout the entire body into gear. We've had many athletes and clients comment in some way about this over the years, and it's something that you can definitely feel through a motor sensory standpoint.

The Lateral Core System (TF-IT Band, Glute Medius, Adductors, and QL) receives a tremendous boost due to the natural sway that occurs from carrying pretty much any type of heavy object. Not to mention the shear mental drive and desire you have to manifest in order to grind it out and complete the set. This speaks to the nature of athletics in general, so it's just a great exercise because of this benefit alone.

Here is a veteran RBS athlete taking care of business after he put on 15-20 lbs. of solid mass and improved all of his baseball position specific metrics. It's pretty hard to tell since he looks so calm under pressure, but the group just finished a grueling max effort upper body session before this video demo. If you really want to take things up a notch and build some character and test toughness, then programming heavy carries under fatigue at the end of the workout is a great option. You can also incorporate "Weighted Carry Races" as well.
